Employee Spotlight: Cynthia Wecker, Summer Trends & Updates
Written By Cynthia Wecker
Hello everyone! Cindy Wecker here, Senior Interior Designer at Abbie Joan Fine Living. I’m excited to share some design insights and a bit about what’s been happening in my life lately.
Design Trends and Insights
As a designer, I’m always on the lookout for new trends and ideas to incorporate into my projects. Here are a few things I've been loving lately:
- Softer Colors: Lately, I’ve noticed a shift towards softer hues. Blush tones have in particular have caught my eye. They add a subtle warmth and elegance to any space without being overwhelming.
- Timeless Blues: Blue continues to be a staple in interior design. It's incredibly versatile and perfect for creating a relaxing retreat. Whether it’s a deep navy or a light pastel, blue is here to stay.
- Indoor/Outdoor Fabrics: Living in Florida, it’s essential to choose fabrics that can handle the indoor-outdoor lifestyle. I always look for materials that are durable enough to withstand the elements but still stylish and comfortable.
- Favorite Project - Dungan Cabana: One of my favorite projects right now is the Dungan Cabana. It’s a small space, but it’s packed with bold colors and patterns. The clients have been fantastic, giving me the freedom to present fun and creative ideas. It’s a space meant for play and relaxation, and I love how it’s turning out.
Design Tips?
Here are some of my top design tips to help you create beautiful, functional spaces:
- Embrace Versatile Fabrics: In Florida, fabrics need to be tough enough for outdoor use but still chic. Look for materials that offer both durability and style.
- Play with Colors: Don’t be afraid to use bold colors and patterns, especially in smaller spaces. They can add character and make the space feel unique.
- Functional Accents: Use accents like blush tones to add warmth without overwhelming the space. These subtle touches can transform a room and make it feel more inviting.
- Personalize Your Space: Incorporate personal items and art pieces that tell your story. This makes the space feel more like home and adds a unique touch.
Personal Updates
Now, onto some personal updates! I’m originally from Iowa but moved to sunny Florida in 2015. Recently, I returned to work after being on maternity leave. My husband and I welcomed our first child in February, a baby girl named Aubrie Jean. She’s growing so fast and hitting all the exciting milestones. Recently, she began eating solids, although she’s not a fan yet! Aubrie is such a joy to us with her infectious laughter and all the little amazing things she seems to learn daily – including how to make use of her surprisingly strong grip (ouch!).
Aubrie has been enjoying daycare, and it's been fun to see the art projects she brings home. At home, our two cats, Penelope and Percy, are slowly getting used to her. Aubrie is eager to pet them, but for now, they mostly keep their distance.
Returning to work has been a nice change of pace, giving me a more regular schedule. I often try to explain the design process to Aubrie, but she doesn’t quite get it yet. As a family, we’re excited to plan trips and activities with Aubrie, like visiting the aquarium or the Salvador Dalí Museum, to see how she reacts.
I hope you enjoyed these insights and updates. Stay tuned for more from our talented team members in future Employee Spotlights. Thank you for being part of our journey at Abbie Joan Fine Living!
